José Padilha is the Brazilian director internationally known for his films Bus 174 and Tropa de Elite, having won for this last the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival of 2008. In 2009 Padilha released his new documentary Garapa. This is a documentary about one of the world's great killers -- hunger. "Movies can make a difference, but not on their own. Art makes a difference. So if you take everything together – the books that are being written about, say, the violence in Brazil, the plays that are about this, the articles in the newspapers, the research that's being done, and the films, together all those things, in the long run, make a difference. As a documentary filmmaker I consider myself to be a little player in a much bigger scenario where we are all striving to accomplish something. Some in the medium of film, others with books and art." Jose Padilha Film & Festivals is honoured to have Jose Padilha as one of its patrons. Padilha’s filmography
