The Africa in Motion Film Festival in Edinburgh has just received a prestigious international award from the Foundation for Subjective Experience and Research (S.E.R. Foundation), an organisation that supports worldwide projects in the area of children and youth, culture, inter-cultural dialogue and religion.

Thessaloniki announces new dates and Director PDF Print E-mail

Dimitris Eipides is the new director of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (TIFF), appointed by Greek Minister of Culture Pavlos Geroulanos, following the resignation of previous Festival Director, Despina Mouzaki.

Eipides’ first step as TIFF director is to change this year’s event dates to a December 3-11 slot as additional time for the Festival preparations will be necessary, a move already approved by FIAPF. Certain to remain for this year are core sections of the Festival, such as the International Competition section (reserved to first and second films), the Independence Days and Balkan Survey sections, as well as industry initiatives such as the Balkan Fund and the Crossroads co-production event.

The two shortlists are announced for the 2010 And/or Book Awards, the UK’s leading prizes for books published in the fields of photography and the moving image. A winner from each category will share a prize fund of £10,000. They will be announced during an awards ceremony at the BFI Southbank, London, on Thursday 29 April.

Propeller4Film launches funding support service PDF Print E-mail

Help is at hand for up-and-coming filmmakers who are seeking financial backing for their films. From today a new service is available that links filmmakers with those offering funding.

The team behind Propeller TV (the pioneering short film channel that was launched on Sky in 2006) have developed a web service aimed at enabling filmmakers to get access to all funds for which they could be eligible. The TV channel was sold to Chinese Broadcasters Xiking Group in July 2009 as the internet was seen as a far more appropriate channel for the expanded range of services that Propeller4Film now offers.

CURZON CINEMAS IS THE UK's FIRST FULLY DIGITAL CINEMA CIRCUIT PDF Print E-mail

Curzon Cinemas, one of the UK's leading independent cinema chains, celebrated its 75th anniversary in style this year. Not only did Curzon open the first venue in Wimbledon together with leading entertainment retailer HMV back in October, but also converted its last remaining 35mm-only screen in Mayfair to digital projection this month. Curzon therefore announces today that it has become the UK's only fully digital cinema circuit.
